Lukaku Recalled as Chelsea Transfer Stalls
Romelu Lukaku has been ordered to return from Turkey to Chelsea, with his future to be decided only after a face-to-face meeting with new manager Mauricio Pochettino. As Live Cricket BPL notes, Chelsea are open to selling the Belgian striker, but they have already turned down two bids from Inter Milan. The Blues are holding out for £40 million, while Inter’s latest offer has only reached £30 million. Last week, Juventus joined the race, stirring the pot even further.
What started as a promising transfer window quickly spiraled into chaos, thanks to Lukaku and his agent going silent during key negotiations. This radio silence angered Inter, who then threatened to walk away from talks, especially after discovering that Juventus had been allowed to enter the conversation. On the flip side, Juventus felt they were being used to artificially inflate Lukaku’s value. As negotiations broke down, Chelsea changed their approach, issuing a formal recall for Lukaku to return to Cobham for training.
Despite receiving the recall notice, Lukaku does not appear in Pochettino’s plans for the new season. He has not been included in the squad flying to the United States for preseason matches. For now, he remains one of the many players on the verge of an exit, likely to join a growing list of Stamford Bridge departures including Mason Mount, Mateo Kovačić, N’Golo Kanté, Kalidou Koulibaly, Édouard Mendy, Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech, César Azpilicueta, Baba Rahman, Tiémoué Bakayoko, and Christian Pulisic. As Live Cricket BPL observes, another name may soon be added to the list.
Meanwhile, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Ziyech are also seeking similar moves away from the club. Chelsea’s attention has recently shifted to Elye Wahi, whose strong form last season has attracted interest not just from the Blues, but also from Arsenal and Newcastle. Talks with Wahi are said to be progressing well, and Chelsea hopes to finalize a deal within a week, with plans to loan him out to Strasbourg for the upcoming season.
However, a major setback has complicated the club’s planning. Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament tear, effectively ruling him out for the entire season. Signed for a hefty fee from Leicester City last summer, Fofana has already faced two serious knee injuries in his debut campaign. His recurring knee problems, which have followed him since early in his career, have resurfaced with serious consequences.
Compared to injury-prone stars like Ousmane Dembélé, Eden Hazard, or Marco Reus, Fofana’s record may be even more concerning. Playing as a central defender requires consistent availability, and frequent injuries risk turning him into another Phil Jones situation. Growth often comes wrapped in adversity, and Fofana’s journey seems no different. Live Cricket BPL concludes that his injury could force Chelsea to reconsider their transfer strategy, potentially pushing them to bring in another center-back before the window closes.
